Despite drawing a taxpayer funded salary of $102,539 per year including benefits and reimbursements, just days before the March 5th primary election County Commissioner Don Stringer continues to owe thousands of dollars in unpaid and delinquent property taxes on his home.
During the campaign it was uncovered that Stringer had not paid his 2022 and 2023 property taxes and was over $10,000 past due in taxes, attorney fees and penalties.
In a February 23, 2024 article in the OA, Stringer stated:
The truth, Stringer said, is that court records show he owes $8,000 on his current taxes and once he files for his homestead exemption he’ll actually owe closer to $6,000.
“She said I owe back taxes. I don’t. I owe current taxes,” he said.
It’s unclear what “court records” Stringer is referring to as it is the Ector County Appraisal District that is responsible for the assessment and collection of all property taxes in Ector County. A review conducted this morning of information on the Ector County Appraisal District website (which states that all of the information provided is up to date as of March 1, 2024) shows that Stringer’s 2023 taxes of $5,907.16 (including penalties of $487.75) which were due December 31, 2023 and became delinquent on January 31, 2024 are still unpaid.
