An event marking the National Day of Prayer will be held on May 5 and is being hosted by Odessa Mayor Javier Joven, At-Large City Councilwoman Denise Swanner, and District-One Councilman Mark Matta.
The event, entitled “Prayer for our City” is set to include religious and civic leaders who will lead in prayers focusing on several specific issues, including mental health awareness, public education, human trafficking, addiction, abuse, and neglect.
Major Joven says the event is inspired by the purpose of the National Day of Prayer, which was adopted by a joint resolution of Congress in 1952, asking people of faith to turn towards God in prayer and meditation.
The event will run from 7 to 8:30 PM on the evening of May 5 at the MCM Hotel Fun Dome in Odessa. The public is encouraged to attend, and admission is free. More information can be found on the event page here.
