Odessa businessman Billy Tripp has announced his candidacy in the March 1, 2022, Republican Primary, filing earlier this month to run for Ector County Commissioner in Precinct 2.

According to a campaign press release, Tripp is a lifelong Odessa resident and cites a professional background in building construction, oil and gas, ranching, and farming.

Tripp holds a BBA in Accounting from Texas A&M University and writes that he is running to bring a new perspective to the office.

The release included several statements regarding Tripp’s platform, including that “[w]e must protect our assets, be good stewards of the blessings we have received, and yet keep pace with innovative outlooks for future growth,” and also asked to for the opportunity to serve with “bold leadership and a compressive new strategy of working together to advance the interest of all citizens by implementing fiscally prudent forward-looking leadership.”

Tripp will face longtime incumbent Commissioner Greg Simmons and Ryan Patton in the March Republican Primary Election.
