Ector County Republican Party Condemns Assault on Campaign Worker

Odessa, TX – February 22, 2024 – The Ector County Republican Party unequivocally condemns the actions that led to the unfortunate assault of a dedicated campaign worker earlier today. This incident, resulting from the actions of Donna Kelm is not only deeply troubling but utterly unacceptable in our democratic society.

The assault, which has led to charges being filed, represents an attack not just on an individual but on the sanctity of our electoral process and the principles of civil discourse and respect that underpin our republic. Such behavior is antithetical to everything we stand for as a party and as Americans.

While we are staunch advocates for free speech and the robust exchange of ideas, there is a clear line that must never be crossed. Violence or the threat of violence has no place in our political process or in resolving disputes. We believe in the power of words, debate, and the democratic process to address our differences and advance our collective goals.

It is particularly disheartening to see this incident in the context of the multi-year assault that Ronnie Lewis and his operatives have waged against Ector County Republicans.  His escalating rhetoric and actions are associated with liberal cancel culture, which seeks to silence opposition and stifle free expression through intimidation or violence. This event, as well as the physically aggressive conduct of Ector County Commissioner Candidate Don Stringer at Monday night’s candidate forum, are stark reminders of the dangerous path that such a culture can lead us down, where disagreements are not settled through dialogue but through force.

We call upon our community members, regardless of political affiliation, to come together in condemning this act of violence and to commit to engaging in peaceful, respectful, and productive political discourse. Let us lead by example, demonstrating that even in times of deep division, we can and must rise above to uphold the core values that unite us as a community and a nation.

The Ector County Republican Party extends its thoughts and prayers to the victim of this assault, thanking them for their service in the electoral process. We also urge law enforcement to take swift and appropriate action against the perpetrator of this attack.

As we move forward, let this incident not divide us further but serve as a call to return to civility, mutual respect, and the peaceful resolution of our differences. Our community and our republic depend on it.
